One Dead in Highway Crash North of Toronto

A fatal single-vehicle crash occurred in East Gwillimbury, Ontario early Thursday morning, according to York Regional Police. At approximately 4:40 a.m., police responded to the accident on David Drive between Highway 48 and York Durham Line.

Authorities say the driver collided with a pole, which caught fire. When officers arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. One occupant was found deceased inside the burnt vehicle.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Davis Drive remains closed in the vicinity as police investigate the tragic incident. The closure is expected to continue for several hours.
