A 67-year-old man was killed and his wife and two young grandchildren were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while unloading groceries in Queens on Tuesday.
Police say Sam Amorese was fatally pinned between two cars around 4 p.m. on 260th Street and 73rd Avenue in the Glen Oaks neighborhood. His 65-year-old wife and 1-year-old grandson suffered severe leg wounds and are hospitalized in stable condition.
Amorese’s 5-year-old granddaughter had only minor scratches. The 39-year-old driver who hit the family remained at the scene and indicated a possible medical emergency behind the wheel, authorities said.
Neighbors expressed ongoing concerns over speeding issues on the normally quiet residential road, though it’s unclear if that played a role in this crash. The tragic loss of life has shaken the tight-knit community.
While the investigation continues, the family is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of their loved one in such a sudden, senseless accident outside their own home. Officials say no charges have been filed against the driver so far as they review all circumstances.
