A police chase of a suspected stolen vehicle in Jackson, Mississippi ended in tragedy early Thursday with three suspects killed in a violent crash.

Police said they initially sought to stop the Hyundai after receiving reports it may have been involved in auto burglaries. But the car fled, speeding through city streets with officers in pursuit.
The Hyundai carrying four suspects blew through a red light and collided with a Dodge truck at an intersection, killing three occupants. The deceased were identified by police as Donte Ingram, 30, Jaylon Black, 25, and Jamiah T. Smith, 18, all of Jackson.
The truck driver was hospitalized and the sole surviving suspect, 28-year-old James Stevenson, was arrested. Investigators said the Hyundai contained drugs and weapons when it crashed.
While police were simply trying to do their jobs, the suspects’ decision to recklessly flee cost three young lives. Chief Joseph Wade lamented the lack of respect for law enforcement that precipitated the heartbreaking outcome.
The community is now left to mourn those lost in the devastating police chase, while also rallying around the injured truck driver. Officers never wish for such tragic results when seeking to uphold the law.
