Mount Washington, KY – A beloved school bus driver for Bullitt County Public Schools died Friday morning in a fatal head-on collision while driving to work in Mount Washington, Kentucky.

48-year-old Jason “Jay” Benningfield was killed when his personal vehicle was struck head-on by another car around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 44 and Douglas Drive.
Benningfield, who drove bus 1409 and trained other drivers, died at the scene according to authorities. The driver of the other vehicle involved suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
According to his obituary, Benningfield leaves behind his wife, friends, family, and his “bus babies” – the students he drove for the district. A GoFundMe for his wife called him a driver who loved his job and made an impact on all who knew him.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the tragic accident that claimed the life of the beloved school bus driver on his morning commute. The head-on collision occurred as Benningfield was driving to work.
