Tragedy struck the Rocky River High School community Monday morning when three students were involved in a devastating car accident in Mint Hill. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the crash happened around 8:15am on Highway 51 near Allen Station Road, only about a mile away from the school.

Tragically, one student died on the scene. The other two sustained major, life-threatening injuries and were transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Main. The victims have not yet been identified publicly.
In a statement to Rocky River families, Principal LeGrand expressed profound heartbreak and grief, emphasizing that counselors and crisis support would be available to assist both students and faculty during this incredibly difficult time.
LeGrand also encouraged parents to inform the school if their families have experienced recent losses so additional support can be provided to grieving students.
