A Liverpool police officer has been sentenced for causing a devastating high-speed crash that left a fellow officer in a coma last year.

PC Ashleigh McAdams, 31, collided with another patrol vehicle while rushing to an emergency call in July 2025. She ran a red light at high speed, slamming into the side of a police car carrying PCs Gary Carson and Mark Lockett.

Dashcam footage showed PC Carson’s vehicle T-boned at up to 70mph as it responded to a 999 burglary call.

22-year-old officer Charlotte Waters, a passenger in McAdams’ car, was placed in an induced coma for 4 days due to a brain bleed. She spent over a week in the hospital and continues to suffer speech and balance issues a year later, unable to return to duty.

McAdams pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving. The judge handed her a 12-month community order with unpaid work, avoiding a custodial sentence he said would likely end her career.

The traumatic crash marked a devastating turn for officers who saw their lives and careers upended in an instant. While accountability has now been rendered, the physical and emotional scars remain raw for those injured.
