Toyota plans to launch Ertiga-based Rumion and Brezza-based compact SUVs in the Indian market soon.
Must Read:
The Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership has already come a long way, and we have already seen several badge-engineered and co-developed cars. Maruti Suzuki Invicto is the latest rebadged product, which is essentially based on the Toyota Innova Crysta. Along with this, Toyota is also planning to introduce rebadged versions of two of Maruti’s cars. One is an MPV based on the Ertiga, and the other is a coupe-styled SUV based on the Brezza. Let’s find out more about these two vehicles.
1. Toyota Rumion:
The first of the upcoming models is an in-line rebadged Maruti Suzuki car, which will be sold as Toyota Rumion in India. The Ertiga-based MPV is set to be launched in the domestic market next month, i.e., September 2023.
It is worth mentioning that Toyota already sells the Ertiga-based Rumion in the South African market, which is manufactured and exported from India by Maruti Suzuki. Recently, Toyota has also registered a trademark for Rumion in the country, indicating that the same nomenclature might be used for the upcoming MPV here.
In terms of features, the Rumion will be similar to the Ertiga. However, there will be some design tweaks, including a new grille, an updated front bumper, and a fresh set of alloy wheels. The interior will also see minor changes, while the feature set will remain mostly the same. The powertrain is expected to be borrowed from the Ertiga as well.
2. Toyota Brezza-based Compact SUV:
The second vehicle joining Toyota’s lineup will be a coupe-styled SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Sporting the same platform and powertrain set as the Glanza-Glanza duo, this coupe-styled SUV will be powered by the familiar 1.2-liter K12C engine, which is available with both petrol and CNG fuel options, along with the 1.0-liter Boosterjet turbo petrol engine.

In terms of design, it will receive minor updates to the bumpers, front grille, and alloy wheels, resembling the Baleno-Glanza duo. The interior and equipment list will remain the same, with minor upholstery changes. Toyota’s Brezza-based compact SUV will likely be launched around the festive season, although the company has not disclosed the exact timeline yet.
