The recent unveiling highlights the commendable fuel efficiency of the Punch SUV with CNG, introduced as the Punch ICNG on August 4th.

This innovative vehicle features a brand-new twin-cylinder technology, offering three distinct variants: Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished. The pricing for these variants falls within the range of INR 7.10 lakh to INR 9.68 lakh. The Punch ICNG is anticipated to compete with the Hyundai Venue SUV, which also boasts CNG technology.
Tata Motors has shared that the Punch ICNG is expected to deliver an approximate mileage of 27 kilometers per kilogram. According to official figures available on Tata’s website, the mileage is estimated at around 26.99 kilometers per kilogram—similar to the mileage achieved by the Tata Tigor CNG. In comparison, the Hyundai Venue CNG offers slightly lower mileage, averaging about 27.1 kilometers per kilogram.
The heart of the Punch iCNG SUV lies in its 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. While operating on petrol, this engine yields an impressive maximum power output of 84.82 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. In CNG mode, the power output is slightly reduced to approximately 72.39 bhp, with torque reaching around 103 Nm. Notably, this engine is available with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. However, the CNG powertrain is exclusively paired with the 5-speed AMT option.
A distinguishing feature of Tata’s iCNG lineup is the utilization of a dual-cylinder setup. In place of a single, larger CNG cylinder, Tata Motors has cleverly incorporated two smaller 30-liter cylinders, resulting in a combined capacity of 60 liters. Positioned beneath the boot floor, this design not only ensures comfort for rear passengers but also provides ample room for their belongings.
