IRWINTON, Ga. – A deadly three-car collision is under investigation after occurring Saturday afternoon at an intersection in rural Wilkinson County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash took place around 3:14 p.m. at the crossing of GA Highways 18 and 243 near Irwinton. A Plymouth Neon traveling south on GA 18 failed to yield while crossing GA 243 and was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming Dodge Charger.
The force of the impact with the Charger caused debris to hit a Honda Pilot that had stopped at the intersection. The driver of the Neon, who has yet to be identified, was killed in the crash.
First responders pronounced the Neon driver dead at the scene. Their identity is being withheld until the family can be notified. The drivers of the Charger and Pilot were uninjured.
An investigation into the fatal wreck remains ongoing. Troopers believe the Neon driver’s failure to properly yield and see oncoming traffic contributed to the tragic outcome.
The rural highways near Irwinton see heavy agricultural traffic and some speeding issues, according to authorities. Saturday’s crash marks the first roadway fatality in Wilkinson County this year.
Officials are reminding motorists to use extreme caution at intersections, avoid distractions, and watch for crossing vehicles to prevent similar deadly collisions.
