Asheville, NC – A fatal hit-and-run collision involving a bicyclist occurred Sunday afternoon along Hendersonville Road in Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.

At approximately 1:12 p.m., officers responded to the scene near Hendersonville Road. Based on initial investigations, a blue passenger car was attempting to pass another vehicle by using the turning lane, when it struck a bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction in the same turn lane.
After colliding with the cyclist, the driver of the blue car fled the scene without stopping, police stated. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s identity has not yet been released publicly.
Authorities are actively searching for the driver and vehicle involved in the deadly hit-and-run. The Asheville Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information about the suspect vehicle to contact investigators immediately.
The fatal crash marks Asheville’s first bicyclist death this year and highlights ongoing concerns over bike safety and hit-and-run incidents in the area. Police are working to bring closure to the case and the victim’s family by locating the party responsible for Sunday’s tragic incident.
