A devastating single-vehicle crash in suburban Atlanta on Labor Day claimed the lives of five teenagers and left three more injured.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on an elevated ramp to Interstate 85 near Duluth, Georgia. According to police, the vehicle went over the ramp wall and plunged onto I-85 below, where it collided with another car.
The Gwinnett County coroner confirmed five victims aged 17-19 died at the scene. They were identified as classmates Katy Gaitan, Ashley Gaitan, Coral Lorenzo, Hung Nguyen and Abner Santana.
Investigators believe two cars initially crashed on the ramp, causing one to vault over the concrete barrier onto the interstate where it was struck again. The three injured teens were transported to local hospitals.
A tragic start to the week for many families, as they cope with the devastating loss of loved ones. Police continue to probe the circumstances of the fatal collisions and have appealed to witnesses for any information.
