A pedestrian waiting at a bus stop was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Brighton late Wednesday night. The female driver was arrested for drunk driving following the troubling collision.
Must Read:
The incident occurred just before midnight along the A270 Lewes Road. According to police, a black Jaguar traveling southbound mounted the sidewalk and crashed into the bus stop, hitting the 24-year-old male victim.
The man was rushed to hospital with major wounds where he remains in serious condition. The 42-year-old driver from Surrey failed a breathalyzer test and was arrested for driving under influence and causing injury by dangerous driving.
Part of the road remained closed Thursday morning as police continue investigating the circumstances. Traffic is being diverted as crews work to clear the damage.
While officials have not released the victim’s current status, the injuries were clearly significant enough to warrant an arrest on serious charges. For the driver, a late night decision to get behind the wheel while impaired has now drastically altered lives.
Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with footage to assist the investigation into the troubling pedestrian collision. Far too often, innocents waiting for their bus endure the consequences of intoxicated motorists’ actions.
