A high-speed crash in California on Saturday morning ended in tragedy after a car flew off a dead-end street into a canal, killing both occupants.

Police in San Rafael said they received a 911 call around 7 a.m. reporting that a vehicle had crashed into a waterway at the end of a dead-end road. Responding officers found skid marks leading from the gravel road into the canal.
A witness at the scene stated the car had been traveling approximately 70 mph before it suddenly plunged into the water. Divers located the submerged vehicle and recovered two victims trapped inside, but they were unable to be revived.
The county coroner will release the names of the deceased victims. Police suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal single-vehicle crash. The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the high-speed waterway accident remains ongoing.
