Hyundai Exter Electric: Unveiling the Competition in India’s EV Market

The Hyundai Exter Electric has been spotted for the first time during testing, and upon its launch, it will compete with the upcoming Panch EV. Due to the growing demand for electric vehicles, Hyundai is also preparing to introduce the electric version of its Exter Micro SUV in the Indian market.

After Tata’s dominance in the micro-SUV segment with the Punch, Hyundai has posed a strong challenge with the Exter. The company recently launched the Exter at a starting price of ₹5.99 lacks. Meanwhile, its electric version has been seen during testing, and it is expected to be launched next year.

The Exter Electric will be Hyundai’s first entry-level electric car in India. So far, the company has only offered premium electric cars like the Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric in the Indian market. In international markets, Hyundai offers a series of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid cars. Hyundai is also currently working on the Casper EV, which could have similarities with the Exter EV.

Compared to the Casper EV, the Exter is larger and might come with a more powerful battery pack. The Hyundai Casper EV is expected to have a 40 kWh battery pack. Therefore, the Exter EV could potentially feature a battery pack of around 25-30 kWh, providing an estimated range of 300-350 kilometers.

On the other hand, the Citroën eC3 offers a range of 320 kilometers, while the COMET EV can cover around 230 kilometers on a full charge. The Tiago EV comes in two variants with ranges of 250 kilometers and 315 kilometers. The upcoming Panch EV is also expected to offer a similar range. The competition between the Hyundai Exter Electric and the Panch EV is anticipated to be intense, as both will strive to outperform each other in terms of range and performance.

In terms of style, the Exter EV will likely resemble its ICE sibling to a great extent. There might be some changes in the front with EV badging, as seen in prototype versions during testing. The Exter EV could also come with new wheels and feature sets similar to the ICE Exter. Its price will play a crucial role in determining its standing in the electric micro-SUV segment.

The Hyundai Exter Voice-enabled Smart Electric Sunroof, dual-camera dashcam, pedal shifters, rear AC vents, footwell lighting, wireless phone charger, 12-language support, and Alexa Voice Command are some of the segment-first features. Safety features include standard 6 airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, hill start assist control, a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines, and electronic stability control, among others.
