Fatal Collision on Highway 16 Claims the Life of a Cyclist, Strathcona County RCMP Reports

A fatal collision occurred Friday morning on Highway 16 westbound between Broadmoor Boulevard and Anthony Henday Drive just outside Sherwood Park, Alberta.

According to RCMP, the incident happened at 5:12 a.m. and involved a vehicle striking a cyclist. Emergency crews arriving on the scene found the deceased cyclist.

The driver of the vehicle was located and transported to hospital with injuries. Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor and an impaired driving causing death investigation is underway regarding the driver.

The deceased victim has been identified but details are not being released until next of kin is notified.

Earlier, Strathcona County RCMP reported Highway 16 westbound was closed due to the collision but it reopened around 2 p.m. and traffic has resumed normally. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
