The crash happened around 3 a.m. on June 17th along Skead Road, north of Pipeline Road. According to police, one vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car.
The 29-year-old male driver of the other vehicle died at the scene. Two occupants in the offending vehicle were critically injured and hospitalized.
Officers detected signs of impairment from the surviving driver, who was initially charged at the hospital. After further investigation, police rearrested the 53-year-old man on September 5th and charged him with numerous offenses including impaired driving causing death.
He appeared in bail court this week to face charges related to the devastating collision that claimed an innocent man’s life. The allegations have not been proven in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
For the loved ones of the deceased, the pain of such an abrupt, preventable loss remains fresh. While charges have been laid, it provides only a fraction of closure for those mourning a life cut short that June night.
