Roadside Nightmare: 4 Seriously Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Tsawwassen

A major three-vehicle crash in Delta, British Columbia on Sunday evening left four people hospitalized in critical condition.

The collision occurred around 7:28pm on Highway 17 at the intersection of 56th Street. BC Emergency Health Services responded with seven ground ambulances, one supervisor unit, and one air ambulance.

According to Delta Police, one vehicle hit a concrete median on the highway, rolled over, and collided with a second vehicle. The displaced median barrier then struck a third vehicle.

The crash north of the Tsawwassen region heavily disrupted Sunday night traffic, with BC Ferries customers re-routed through Ladner. Other motorists were diverted at Deltaport Way.

Video footage from the scene shows a flipped upside down car and first responders rushing victims to ambulances on stretchers.

In an update Monday, police said three of the four injured people have been released from hospital. One patient remains with serious but non-life threatening wounds.

Highway 17 reopened to all traffic by 6am Monday morning.

Investigators are now appealing to the public for any dashboard camera footage leading up to the crash, including along Highway 17 and 56th Street. Video can be uploaded to the Delta Police website.

Witnesses to the collision or prior driving behavior are asked to contact the department’s non-emergency line at 604-946-4411 referencing file number 2023-20569.
