According to police affidavits, the Camaro pushed the Versa back 15 feet upon impact. Several good Samaritans stopped to help two seriously injured crash victims, Yasmine Galindo Macedo and a family member. A witness tried blocking traffic with his truck as others aided the injured.
Before they could get out of the roadway, Galindo Macedo and the witness were struck by a GMC pickup driven by Martin Mendez Jimenez. The witness was thrown while Galindo Macedo became trapped under the truck near the front right tire. Police say Jimenez briefly slowed before continuing to drive.
Dashcam footage shows the truck dragged Macedo over a quarter mile despite flashing headlights and honking from a following driver. Macedo was pronounced dead on scene just before 4am.
Authorities stopped Jimenez later on I-35. He admitted to leaving the scene after drinking alcohol. Jimenez was arrested on a $1 million bond for accident involving death charges. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
