One person was killed in a 5-vehicle crash on Interstate 69 in Grant County on Wednesday afternoon. The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. near the 257-mile marker in the northbound lanes, which is about two miles north of the Fairmount exit.

According to Indiana State Police, traffic was backed up for an unknown reason when a 2021 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer failed to stop and rear-ended a Ford pickup truck. The impact caused the Ford truck to hit three other vehicles, one of which caught fire.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin. There were no other injuries reported. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The crash caused traffic to be diverted for several hours. This is the second fatal crash on I-69 in Grant County in the past two weeks. On June 9, a semi-truck driver was killed when he crashed into another semi-truck.
ISP is urging drivers to be cautious and to pay attention to the road when driving in construction zones.
