Tragedy Strikes: Fort Payne Man Killed, Three Injured in Etowah County Two-Vehicle Wreck

A deadly two-vehicle collision in Etowah County, Alabama claimed the life of a Fort Payne man on Thursday morning. According to officials, 50-year-old Andy McSpadden was fatally injured when the 2009 Nissan Rogue he was operating struck a 2020 Mercedes GLC300.

McSpadden was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on U.S. Highway 11 near Walker Lane, about four miles north of Reece City. The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger were transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.

McSpadden’s passenger, 21-year-old Heath Mcelrath Jr., was also injured in the wreck and taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The extent of injuries to the Mercedes occupants and Mcelrath is unknown.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the two-vehicle collision that tragically claimed McSpadden’s life. The community mourns the loss of life resulting from this incident.
