A devastating multi-vehicle crash left five people dead and three injured early Monday morning on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta.

According to Gwinnett County Police, the tragic accident occurred before 4 a.m. near Duluth, Georgia along I-85. An initial two-car collision caused one vehicle to vault over a raised ramp wall, plunging 50 feet onto I-85 below.
The falling car crashed into a third vehicle on the interstate, killing all five of its occupants, police said. The other two drivers sustained undisclosed injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

Investigators shut down the busy interstate and ramps for several hours to process the horrific scene. The events leading to the deadly collisions are still under investigation.
Police are urging any witnesses to provide information that could explain how such a catastrophic crash occured. For now, families are reeling from the loss of five lives in the early morning tragedy.
