Billerica, MA – A construction truck crash caused extensive damage to a building in Billerica, Massachusetts on Monday evening. The accident was followed by a secondary collision with a police vehicle at the scene.

According to authorities, a Newport Construction work truck was traveling west on Floyd Street around 7:30 pm when it crossed Boston Road and collided into a commercial building that was formerly Mackenzie Auto.
The 19-year-old male driver was located outside the vehicle with non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Police say the driver faces charges including speeding, failure to stop at a red light, and minor alcohol possession.
The right side of the building sustained serious structural damage according to fire officials. Crews were concerned the front wall could collapse when removing the truck.
While emergency crews were clearing debris, a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup crashed into a Billerica police cruiser at the scene of the initial accident. Details on injuries and the cause of the secondary crash were not immediately provided.
The building owners had just received an offer to purchase the property on the same day as the truck collision. The extent of damages to the structure are still being assessed.
