Maruti Suzuki Fronx has outperformed Tata Nexon in sales for the first time in July 2023, selling 13,220 units compared to Nexon’s 12,349 units.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited introduced the Fronx alongside the five-door Jimny in April 2023 at the 2023 Auto Expo. The compact SUV coupe has received a positive response from customers, resulting in a consistent increase in sales. In July 2023, Maruti Suzuki Fronx secured the third position in the top 10 SUV sales.
By achieving this feat, the five-seater surpassed Tata Nexon and Tata Punch in terms of sales. It now ranks as the third highest-selling SUV in the country, trailing only behind its siblings, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Creta. Fronx is based on the lightweight Heartect platform, similar to the premium hatchback Baleno, and has significantly contributed to Maruti Suzuki’s growth rate of over 6% last month.
The price of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx ranges from INR 7.46 lakhs to INR 13.13 lakhs (ex-showroom), drawing design inspiration from its bigger sibling, the Grand Vitara. It has two engines: a 1.2-liter NA K-series petrol engine and a 1.0-liter three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. The 1.2-liter engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT, while the 1.0-liter machine comes with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Fronx is exclusively sold through the Nexa premium dealership network and shares many interior features with the Baleno.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx has played a significant role in helping the company gain a substantial market share in the SUV segment in recent months. For July 2023, Brezza, Fronx, and Grand Vitara remain among the top 10 best-selling SUVs.
Meanwhile, Tata Nexon has held the title of the highest-selling SUV in India for a considerable time, and with the upcoming facelift launch next month, it is expected to regain the top spot. The facelift will likely bring several updates, including exterior and interior revisions and an enhanced features list.
