A 3-year-old girl has tragically died after being struck by a vehicle in a residential area of Portlaoise, Ireland. The fatal crash occurred when a car hit the young pedestrian on Cosby Avenue in the Fairgreen area around 1:15PM local time.

Gardaí (Irish police) and emergency responders rushed to the scene. In a statement, they said the young girl suffered severe injuries and was transported to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, where she was later pronounced dead.
The site of the crash on Cosby Avenue has been sealed off for examination by forensic collision investigators with the Garda. Authorities are appealing to any potential witnesses of the collision to come forward and provide information.
