A 16-year-old driver struck and killed an 89-year-old man who was walking along a New Hampshire road on Monday morning, authorities reported.

The fatal collision occurred around 9:43 a.m. on the Mayhew Turnpike in Bridgewater. According to New Hampshire State Police, a 2003 Subaru Legacy driven by the teenage driver entered the breakdown lane and hit the pedestrian, 89-year-old Donald Estes of Bridgewater.
Estes was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the tragic accident. The 16-year-old driver’s identity is being withheld due to their age.
State police said the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit responded to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are urging any potential witnesses to come forward.
