CROMWELL, CT (WFSB) – In an ongoing investigation, state police are reaching out to the public for information related to a “suspicious” child’s death incident.

Detectives disclosed that a two-vehicle collision occurred involving a mother and her daughter on Monday, around 5:20 p.m., at the exit 29 on-ramp leading to Route 9 south in Cromwell.
The child, a 2-year-old girl from Cromwell, lost her life in the incident. The mother, a 24-year-old woman also from Cromwell, was involved in the accident.
According to the police report, the mother’s vehicle collided with the rear bumper of another vehicle, causing her car to veer across the center median into the northbound lanes, ultimately striking a metal guardrail on the right shoulder.
State police officials stated, “Following the accident, the mother and daughter exited the vehicle and ended up near the banks of the Connecticut River. The child’s death is considered suspicious and is currently under active investigation.”
The mother was later located and transported to Middlesex Hospital, according to state police, who noted that she had somehow driven herself to the hospital.
Investigators are now seeking witnesses to the crash and anyone who may possess dashcam footage from the incident.
Individuals who might have observed the events leading up to the crash or noticed anything unusual near the Connecticut River are urged to get in touch with state police to aid in their inquiries.
