A major multi-vehicle accident involving an ambulance occurred Friday morning around 10:15 a.m. on Route 9 in Hyde Park, New York.

According to police, the initial crash took place near Stewart’s Shop on Albany Post Road when an ambulance from NDP EMS heading south collided with a vehicle pulling out from a side road that failed to yield. The impact caused the car to flip on its side.
The ambulance was then forced into oncoming traffic, where it struck a third vehicle head-on. Both the ambulance and the third vehicle rolled over in the crash.
First responders from the Fairview and Roosevelt Fire Departments had to extricate two trapped victims from their vehicles. In total, five people were transported to area hospitals with varying degrees of injury, including one in critical condition and others in serious condition.
Portions of Route 9 were closed for over an hour as accident specialists investigated. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Hyde Park Police are working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
