Reality TV star Nelson Thomas recently revealed unfortunate news regarding his recovery from a major car accident in March. The Challenge veteran was severely injured when his car crashed and caught fire in Austin, Texas earlier this year.
Must Read:
Thomas spent nearly two months in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries on his ankle and arm. However, he shared in an Instagram video posted Wednesday that his ankle has re-broken and is not healing properly.
After visiting Texas Orthopedics, Thomas was told by doctors that the bone around his ankle screws and plates has fractured again and failed to re-heal. He now faces the possibility of either salvage surgery to fuse the ankle joint, which would leave it mostly immobile, or amputation of the ankle.
Thomas said the news was “disheartening” after months of painful recovery. Even if he chooses ankle fusion, the surgery carries high risks and could still lead to amputation down the road.
The reality star gained fame through MTV shows like Are You The One? and has competed on The Challenge for the past 8 years, winning over $30,000. This severe setback puts his hopes of returning to the show in jeopardy.
Thomas said he will visit another specialist to seek a second opinion on the best path forward for his ankle. But he remains resilient in spirit, stating “This is not going to break me.” Thomas vows to overcome this latest challenge on his road to recovery.
