A 17-year-old boy has died from injuries sustained in a devastating car accident that occurred near Commerce, Oklahoma in mid-September.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the fatal single-vehicle rollover crash took place around 3:12 am on September 16th. The 17-year-old was driving a 2012 Hyundai Tucson southbound on South 560 Road at an extremely high rate of speed with three teen passengers.
The SUV departed the roadway, rolled approximately eight times, and landed on its passenger side. The 18-year-old passenger was treated at the scene and released. A 16-year-old passenger was also released after initial treatment.
However, a 15-year-old passenger was critically injured and hospitalized. The 17-year-old driver was also rushed to the hospital in critical condition. After two weeks of treatment, he succumbed to his traumatic injuries on October 2nd.
Authorities report the teen driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Neither he nor the deceased passenger were wearing seatbelts, resulting in them being ejected from the vehicle during the rollover incident. The devastating accident serves as a reminder of the vital importance of responsible driving and seatbelt use for all vehicle occupants.
