Windsor, CT – A stolen vehicle pursuit ended in tragedy in Windsor, Connecticut on Wednesday morning. According to authorities, a male suspect stole a car with a 17-month-old child inside, robbed a bank, then died crashing into a tree shortly after.

Police first received a 911 call around 9:09 a.m. that a vehicle was stolen from St. Gabriel School with the toddler in the backseat. Minutes later, a second call reported a bank robbery at Windsor Federal Savings Bank.

Seconds after that, a third 911 call came in about a vehicle colliding with a tree near Windsor Ave and Hillcrest Rd. Responding officers determined all three incidents were connected.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The toddler was conscious when rescued from the wreckage and transported to the hospital. The child’s mother met first responders on scene.

Nearby residents reported hearing loud explosions from the high-speed crash. The school also notified families that no weapons were involved in the initial auto theft and students were safe.

An investigation into the suspect’s motive and timeline of events is underway. The dramatic, multi-location incident led to a heavy police presence across Windsor during the morning. Officials continue piecing together details of the bizarre crime spree that put lives at risk.
